Catherine Trestrail, CDP, MSW, ACSW
Founder and Director

Founder and Director of A Positive Alternative which opened in 1990 under the name "Women's Recovery Center." Catherine's work in the mental health and addictions field has consistently been on the leading edge in the Northwest. She has pioneered the intergration of the psychological research on addictions within the clinical format of a State Certified Outpatient Program.

For over 20 years Catherine has advocated gender specific treatment; providing a structured, skills and insight based approach to recovery from addications. Her approach has consistently been to focus on client strengths and individuality in a practical, hopeful, compassionate and positive manner.

Every therapist in our program shares these core values and approachs to wellness. Our small staff is a model of open, compassionate communication--with each other as wll as with our clients. Each member of our staff brings a wealth of their own particular strengths and styles.

   

Amy Condon BA, 2 years Clinical Master's Training, CDP
Director of Women's Program, Addictions Counselor

Amy's professional training began with the eye-opening and life changing experience on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in 1968 as a VISTA Volunteer. She later completed her Bachelor's degree in Social Psychology, and went on to develop and direct a Women's Resource Center for the YWCA. In 1978, she became the Director of the Alcohol Treatment Program for the Tulalip Tribes. During the 6 years she was there, she mentored with and attended training programs with leading psychiatrists and psychologists in Gestalt Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Humanistic Psychology and a Psychoanalyst, all as part of a unique Master's Program. She has had a private counseling practice since 1987 and has continued her training, experience and supervision in both Mental Health Counseling and Chemical Dependency.

Amy began working with A Positive Alternative in 1996 and served as individual therapist for clients with mental health and addiction issues. In 1998, she became the full time Addiction Therapist for the Women's Program.

   

Aleta Mattaino, MA Psychology, CDP Intern
Addictions Therapist, Men's Program

Aleta brings a wide and sophisticated background of therapeutic knowledge, practice, and expertise to the Men's Program. Aleta has a Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling Certification in Alcohol and Chemical Dependency, and 2 years of post-graduate training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

Aleta's experience in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, as well as her work with psychiatric assessment teams in outpatient hospitals and emergency rooms all speak to her tremendous breadth of therapeutic knowledge and skill.

Aleta is currently a CDP Intern, and her therapeutic skills and supervision are of the highest level. Aleta will be completing her CDP certification and her Masters level addiction counseling within the next year.c
